After that, the pavers are installed, edges are secured with concrete, and polymeric sand is swept into the joints for a clean, durable finish. Setting Heights Based on Your Property’s Grade

Final Stages of Paver Construction

In the final stage of our Nassau County walkway installations, we secure the exposed edges with a concrete border. This concrete edge acts as a restraint, keeping the pavers firmly in place and preventing any future shifting. It’s positioned about one inch below the surface of the pavers and then covered with topsoil for a clean, natural finish. Next, we fill the joints with polymeric sand, sweeping it evenly across the surface.

After lightly watering, the sand hardens to form a strong, weed-resistant seal that locks the pavers together and maintains the walkway’s stability over time.

Paver Sealants

If you like the deeper color your walkway shows when it’s wet, a sealer can help preserve that appearance year-round. However, we recommend waiting at least one year before sealing your new walkway. This allows time for natural efflorescence—the white, powdery residue that can appear on fresh pavers—to surface and clear away. Once this process is complete, sealing can safely improve the color and protect your walkway from stains, weather, and daily wear.
