Every driveway we build in Nassau County starts with a strong foundation. We begin by installing a 4-inch layer of crushed concrete base, compacted thoroughly with a power roller. Once the masonry portion is complete, our crew returns to regrade the base and compact it again for maximum stability. The final step involves applying a 2-inch layer of asphalt blacktop, which is power rolled to create a smooth, even finish. This detailed process ensures every Nassau County paver driveway installation is built to last—delivering a solid, durable surface that looks clean and performs well for years.

Demolition & Base Preparation

The first step in our paver driveway installation process is removing your old asphalt and existing subbase. Once all debris is hauled away, we compact the exposed ground and install a fresh layer of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) to form a sturdy new base. This subbase is compacted with a power roller to ensure strength and stability. For the best results, we recommend parking on the compacted base for two to three weeks to help it settle before the final asphalt layer is applied. If your new driveway extends into a grassy area, our team will also remove and dispose of the soil to prepare the space properly.

Adding Masonry Features to Your Driveway

Once the old driveway has been removed and the new base is in place, homeowners can choose to customize their project with decorative masonry details. Options include paver borders, stone aprons, curbing, or unique inlay designs. These features not only improve the look of your driveway but also add structure and definition. Elements such as paver borders, aprons, and Belgium block curbs are installed over a concrete subbase to ensure long-term durability and a clean, finished appearance.

New Asphalt

When it’s time to install the new asphalt layer, our team reinforces the foundation by adding and compacting more RCA where needed to ensure a level, stable surface. The asphalt is then applied and evenly spread using either a pave box or by hand raking, depending on the driveway’s size and layout. We lay the asphalt at a depth of about 2 inches before compacting it with a power roller, resulting in a smooth, uniform surface roughly 1.5 inches thick once settled — the ideal measurement for lasting strength and durability.

After Completion

Once your new driveway is finished, it’s important to let it properly cure. We recommend waiting about 4 to 7 days before driving on the surface to avoid tire marks or impressions. The heat from vehicle tires can leave marks if the asphalt hasn’t fully set. For those considering sealcoating, it’s best to wait at least two years—or until the aggregate begins to show and the surface fades from deep black—to ensure the coating adheres correctly and provides lasting protection.
