What's Under Our Steps?

A strong foundation is crucial for a long-lasting stoop. We begin by excavating and pouring a concrete footing, the size of which depends on the height of the stoop. Each additional step will have its own individual footing, ensuring maximum stability. The space between the footings is filled with recycled concrete, providing a solid base for the paver landing. This meticulous approach guarantees a durable and aesthetically pleasing stoop. steps for a patio

The Height of Your Stoop will Affect the Height of Your Patio, Visa-Versa

The height of your stoop significantly impacts the overall design of your patio. We typically aim for a landing height no more than 5 inches below your door, ensuring a comfortable and safe transition between your indoor and outdoor spaces. Our experienced team will carefully assess your home’s architecture and your specific needs to determine the most suitable step height, typically opting for 6 or 8-inch risers. By prioritizing both aesthetics and functionality, we create a beautiful and practical entrance to your home.

Proper Footings

To ensure a solid foundation for your stoop, we can start by excavating and pouring a concrete footing. The depth of the footing varies depending on the height of the structure, ranging from 12 to 36 inches. The first course of blocks is then laid directly onto the concrete, providing a strong base for the entire stoop.

The First Course of Block is Most Important

Once the footing is in place, we carefully lay the first course of blocks, establishing the foundation layout for the entire structure. Each following course is securely placed and secured, ensuring structural integrity. The space between the blocks is then filled with crushed stone, providing additional support and drainage. Finally, the top of the stoop is finished with a concrete slab, providing a solid surface for the paver landing.

Installing Caps and a Paver Landing

Stoops can be constructed using various materials, including block, cinder block with veneer, or wood. To complete the stoop, we install the coping stones and paver landing. The coping is securely attached to the block using masonry adhesive, while the paver landing is finished with polymeric sand for a seamless look. For optimal safety and aesthetics, we recommend considering the addition of lighting to your stoop and building the landing at least 3 feet from the door. This can be planned during the initial design phase to ensure proper wiring and placement.
