What's Under Our Pool Patios

Installing pool patios are very similar to installing normal patios. With 2 major differences. One being the subbase which is poured concrete and two, the pitch on the pavers.

Coping

Coping is the term used to identify the material used to cap the pool edge or shell wall. Besides simply being necessary, the coping provides an opportunity for a decorative accent, which can greatly enhance the appearance of the pool, steps or walls.

The Belgard Shapes are specially designed for specific structural, landscape and pavement applications and hardscape solutions such as steps, pool coping, edging and curbs, facing and permeable pavements.

Options we recommend are:

Paver Coping

A rectangular swimming pool features bright blue water bordered by large, light-grey stone pavers. The clean, mitered corner of the coping creates a seamless transition between the pool edge and the surrounding patio.

Natural Stone Coping

Pitch on a Pool Patio vs. a Normal Patio

Like a normal patio we have to be pitched away from the home and ALSO pitched away from the pool. Think about if you had a major rainstorm and all the debris from your patio washed into your pool.
A rectangular swimming pool is surrounded by a stone patio featuring multiple blue arrows indicating water drainage. The design uses a specific pitch to ensure runoff flows safely away from the house.

Subbase Preparation

The first step in building a pool is setting the heights. Base prep is the most crucial part of pool. After excavation and removal of the pool patio, we will install a crushed concrete base and compact it with a plate compactor. After the base is properly compacted we will level the area with sand or a concrete drypack.

Concrete Overlay

When installing a paver overlay, we will use existing concrete as a sub-base for the pavers. We will use sand to level out the existing concrete and install the proper pitch. We will then install the pavers, ensuring all the necessary patterns and designs are installed with the correct pitch for water drainage.

Coping

Next we install the coping of your choice. There are many different types of coping. Some of the options are going to be a paver coping or natural stone coping. This will enhance your pool. Coping is important because it is a finished edge, which allows your patio to have a seamless look.

Frequently Asked Questions
For new pools, we utilize a poured concrete base rather than just crushed stone to provide the maximum stability needed around the pool shell. This heavy-duty foundation prevents the pavers from settling into the disturbed soil near the water.
Pavers allow you to dress up any pool area with beautiful, high-quality materials that create a true backyard oasis. Unlike a single slab of concrete, pavers can be easily repaired if needed and offer a much more luxurious finish.
Our team carefully assesses the grade of your property to ensure the patio is pitched away from both the home and the pool. This 1.5-inch pitch ensures that rainwater and debris wash away into the yard instead of the pool.
These premium materials are designed for durability and comfort, providing an excellent floor that stays beautiful for many decades. They are manufactured to high standards, ensuring your pool area remains a safe and stylish place for memories.
Yes, all of our pool patio projects include a 3-year warranty coverage to protect your investment. We provide the full details of this coverage in our contracts so you can feel confident in the quality of our work.
When the job is complete, we perform a final walkthrough with you to ensure every detail meets your expectations. We only collect the final payment once you are happy and the property is fully cleaned up.
