Do pavers fade or lose their color over time? What is armortec or facemix?

Paving stone like most things in the world today has come a long way from when it first came to the market. If you have a paving stone from 2005 or before it has the old technology where it looks like the color fades and you start to see the aggregate or the little rocks. Many homeowners wonder, do pavers fade over time? While older pavers were susceptible to fading, most manufacturers of paving stones have updated their plants and are able to order better products now. Below we will info you about how they solved this problem and produced a better product.

Face mix pavers

Paving stone came out with a new technology around 2005 where they installed a face mix to the product. Face mix pavers contain high quality pigment, finer aggregate in a surface layer which is around ⅛ inch on top of the base. This technology is also known as patio armortec, a feature that significantly increases the durability and longevity of the pavers. The base contains larger aggregates which helps with higher compressive and strength. Now with a face mix all the color is on top so the color looks new for much longer. For the paver to look like it used to before face mix your stone would have to wear down to the base layer, which if that happens you will have a bigger problem on your hands. All products that we install have a face mix.

Armortec

Customers always ask about armortec and how they want that on their paving stone. Armortec is a face mix product with Cambridge paving stone named armortec for marketing purposes. They produce a great product when it comes to paver, they have very bright and vibrant colors. They also carry a huge variety of styles, shapes and sizes and they all have armortec or facemix patio paver. We also provide a link explaining more about this topic and how it is manufactured. Now you understand how the industry has come a long way since it came to the market and how you will be getting a better product. Paving stones are going to be out in the elements and that being said there will be some fading and wear and tear but the color will be vibrant for many years to come.
